Mission Statement

Academic advising is an ongoing process where advisors welcome and introduce students to JMU's rich academic culture through communication designed to contribute to student development and academic success. advisors guide students through the integration of curricular, co-curricular, and personal choices while encouraging students to engage in reflection and self-assessment to provide meaningful change-oriented intervention as appropriate.

What is Academic Advising?

Academic Advising is a collaborative process in which students and advisors work together to develop educational plans and promote academic success. However, the ultimate responsibility of selecting courses, meeting requirements and following policies and procedures lies with the student, not the advisor.

Prospective Nursing Students

How to Change Your Major to Nursing

The first step for changing your major is to log into MyMadison and visit your Student Center. In the “Other Academic…” dropdown menu you should find options for adding and dropping a major. Once you have completed this process, you will need to schedule an appointment with Anna Cho, Academic advisor for the School of Nursing. To make an appointment, visit University Advising. The addition of the Nursing major will not be approved until you have met with the advisor.
