The BSN program is a restricted program and requires a secondary application for admission. High school students should apply for admission to JMU and meet admission criteria prior to application.

The BSN program is a restricted program and requires a secondary application for admission. Transfer students must complete one full time semester at JMU and meet other admission criteria prior to application.

JMU has a policy that does not allow students who already have a bachelor’s degree enroll in a second bachelor’s degree program.

The BSN program admits 113 students each fall and each spring semester.

Each semester approximately 120-200 students apply to the BSN program.

Each semester a small number of students may be placed on a wait list. Students on the wait list are offered admission if a student declines or becomes ineligible for admission.

Students whose JMU GPA falls below a 3.00 prior to enrollment in nursing are normally classified as “Not Now Qualified.”  Students must have a 3.0 GPA to apply to the BSN program and must maintain a 3.0 GPA between admission and program entry. Students who do not meet this criterion may reapply when the criterion is met.

Technical standards are basic physical, cognitive, and psychosocial skills and abilities that are required for nursing practice. The technical standards guide students about the skills and abilities required in nursing to make an informed decision regarding nursing as a career. Students must be able to meet the technical standards to complete the BSN program.

Qualified applicants who are declined admission may submit a formal appeal. The appeal should provide evidence of extenuating circumstances that affected academic performance. Full information on the appeal process is found on the School of Nursing website.
