The JMU Master of Science in Nursing Program prepares graduate nurses to meet the challenge of rapidly changing and increasingly complex health care environments. The MSN degree program has the following concentrations:
- Clinical Nurse Leader
- Nurse Administrator
- Family Nurse Practitioner
- Nurse Midwifery (in association with Shenandoah University)
- Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner
- Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
The graduate program is designed to meet the challenges of adult students who wish to continue clinical practice while advancing their education.
- Some concentrations meet one day per week ** and other concentrations are entirely on-line.
- Web-enhanced curriculum
- Flexible placement for practicum courses
- Full-time or Part-time study is available
**Note: Clinical practicum or residency occurs on other days.
The MSN Curriculum Consists of Core Courses and Specialty Courses.
Graduates of the NP program are qualified to take the certification exam through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Graduates of the Clinical Nurse Leader program are eligible for certification through the Commission on Nursing Certification; the Nurse Administrator through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Nurse Midwifery graduates are eligible to take the certification exam through the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME). The Endorsement in Nurse-Midwifery Track is offered by James Madison University School of Nursing in collaboration with Shenandoah University. Shenandoah University's Nurse-Midwifery Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME).
