For Dec 1, 2023 & July 1, 2024 Application Dates

The BSN program requires a secondary application for admission. Students admitted from high school typically apply to the BSN program in the first semester of their 2nd year at JMU. Transfer students typically apply after completing one semester of full-time course work. Admission to the BSN program is competitive. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee program admission. Students must be admitted to the BSN program and meet the Technical Standards to take nursing courses.

Application Requirements

Applications for admission are accepted twice per calendar year. For admission to the Fall cohort, applications are due by December 1st and transcripts are due by January 11th. For admission to the Spring cohort, applications are due by July 1st and transcripts are due by August 31st. The following are required to apply for admission to the BSN program:

  • Enrolled at JMU
  • BSN declared major
  • One full-time semester at JMU completed
  • JMU GPA of 3.00 or higher
  • 36 credit hours completed
  • Earn “C-“ or higher in pre-requisite courses:
    • CHEM 120* Concepts of Chemistry
    • MATH 220* Elementary Statistics
    • Complete two of three biology courses: BIO 270*/270L* Human Physiology or BIO 290/290L Human Anatomy or BIO 245/245L General Microbiology

Admission Requirements

After application and before entry into the BSN program, the remaining pre-requisite courses must be completed with an earned grade of "C-" or better.

  • Maintain a JMU GPA of 3.00 or higher
  • 48 credit hours completed
  • Meet the School of Nursing Technical Standards
  • Earn “C-“ or higher in pre-requisite courses:
    • NUTR 280 Nutrition for Wellness
    • PSYC 160 Life Span Human Development**
    • Complete remaining biology course: BIO 270*/270L* Human Physiology or BIO 290/290L Human Anatomy or BIO 245/245L General Microbiology
